Mid-South Health System Overview

Mid-South Health System, located in Jonesboro, Arkansas, is an addiction treatment center that provides adequate care to adults and adolescents suffering from substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, seeking outpatient treatment. The organization operates with 14 other community health centers as it merged with Counseling Services of Eastern Arkansas in 2010, to be able to provide care to children and adolescents. The facility was formerly known as George W. Jackson before becoming a non-profit organization operated by the state. The community health center is dedicated to providing comprehensive outpatient services to individuals seeking treatment from substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. The facility also operates on a sliding scale method of payment. Medicare, Private Insurance, Medicaid, and AR kids are all accepted the facility, helping to make sure that, no individual is unable to get treatment due to lack of funds.
With over 40 years in the substance abuse treatment sector, the facility is skilled and passionate about offering well-rounded and structured care to adolescents and adults.
The first stage of any program at the facility is an assessment. Clients interested in joining a program and obtaining treatment are required to undergo an initial assessment or evaluation. This assessment is done by a licensed psychologist and this is to determine what kind of care is best needed by the client. This assessment must be first scheduled by the client and individuals might have to spend up to hours at the treatment center on the evaluation day. After this assessment is completed, the issue is abruptly determined and the eligible client will be assigned a primary therapist. Medication management is available to clients who after the assessment, are diagnosed with co-occurring disorders. Such clients are assigned to psychiatrists who will be in charge of them. The facility offers both intensive outpatient and basic outpatient programs. Intensive outpatient program clients are required to attend counseling sessions for nine hours a week; eight hours of group therapy which occurs three evenings per week and one hour of intense individual therapy. Counselors and therapists incorporate Cognitive behavioral therapy while addressing topics such as coping skills, identifying triggers, building support systems, relapse prevention, co-occurring disorders, and many more. Group counseling specific to genders are available as well. The average duration of stay in the intensive outpatient program is six weeks to eight weeks, but stay can be lengthened depending on the progress of the individual. Counseling group sessions contain a maximum of eight people and while in the program, clients are required to attend outside groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings, Celebrate Recovery, or Smart Recovery meetings.
Clients registered in the basic outpatient program are required to attend group sessions once a week and individual sessions, once every two weeks. Meetings are less intense and are offered with less frequency than that of the Intensive Outpatient program. Although the average duration of the basic outpatient program is roughly six weeks, individual needs are met because of the flexibility of the schedule. Clients in both basic outpatient and intensive outpatient programs are drug tested weekly, and clients are required to attend outside support groups.
Clients in the adolescent outpatient program are expected to attend weekly group sessions and individual therapy once a week. Issues addressed in these sessions include identifying triggers, family dynamics, peer pressure, healthy recreational activities, motivational interviewing (MI), and many more. Although family sessions or programs are not compulsory, family and loved ones of clients are strongly recommended to participate. The staff team at the facility consists of licensed alcohol and drug counselors, psychiatrists, marriage and family therapists, and many more.
