Castlewood treatment center helps men and women ages 16 and up who suffer from eating disorders to get back on track. With multiple facilities – two in St. Louis, one in Monterey, CA and one in Birmingham, Alabama. Castlewood offers comprehensive and quality care, supported by capable staff and all the amenities one could ask for.
Castlewood Treatment Center: Treatments, Programs and Staff
In the beginning of the admission process, the Castlewood’s staff performs a clinical assessment, via phone or face-to-face. This way current eating disorder symptoms, other clinical symptoms, as well as relevant life and family history information are gathered.
The treatment at Castlewood is comprehensive, highly individualized and specially designed to treat all types of eating disorders and co-existing disorders, like anxiety, trauma and PTSD, obsessive compulsive disorder, addictions, body dysmorphia, self-harm, depression, social anxiety and phobias.
Castlewood’s residential treatment provides a high intensity of monitoring and frequency of treatment. During the treatment, clients attend group 6-8 hours per day and 6 individual sessions with their treatment team on weekly basis. An average stay is between two to four months, but it can be prolonged if necessary.
The intensive outpatient program represents a transitional step from inpatient treatment and a continuum of care necessary for a long-term recovery from anorexia, bulimia, and binge-eating disorder. The IOP program also includes group and individual therapy, up to five days a week. In addition, there are individual goal-setting sessions, individual sessions with staff dietitian, nutritional education, educational life skills sessions, relapse prevention and boundary development, core processing groups to address underlying issues, etc.
Besides residential and outpatient program, Castlewood Treatment Center also provides Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) or Day Treatment Program. The duration of the program is 5 or 7 days, depending on the client’s needs and goals. What separates this program from others is that it allows clients to fulfil their work, school or family obligations in the evening, and attend the treatment during the day. This is often the treatment of choice when intensive outpatient care is not helping the client to achieve their goals. Day Treatment can also be a suitable option for those without Residential Treatment insurance benefits.
Clients enrolled in this program receive the following: housing in the transitional living house or apartments, individual sessions, a small therapeutic community, aftercare programming, individualized weekly treatment plan, daily monitored weight and vital signs, 2-3 staff supported meals and post meal processing, staff supported snacks, family therapy and participation in Family Weekend.
Family week is an intensive eating disorder family support experience, which lasts for 3 days. It involves group, individual, and family therapy. Clients can invite parents, siblings, spouses or anyone else they want. Psycho-educational groups and therapy sessions are provided for families, in order to explore the best way to support their loved ones throughout the recovery process.
The staff includes seven patient therapists, five dieticians, four outpatient therapists and several nurses. Certified therapists of different stripes can help when necessary.
Facilities and Extras
Castlewood’s main locations are in St. Louis – facilities Castlewood I and II. These facilities offer accommodation for 10 to 16 clients. Both are home-like with a sleek interior design. Each room has king-size, four poster beds, a TV and an adjoining bathroom.
Living areas have a fireplace, plenty of couch and easy-chair space, with a TV. An outdoor pool, modest gym areas and art rooms are also available for clients to enjoy in. Exercise and gym time are of course monitored and gradually monitored.
Both locations are tucked in a wooded area, on a 55-acre plot, decorated with lush vegetation.
Food is the problem and the solution for the Castlewood’s clients, so onsite chefs serve up buffet style meals which represent a balance health and comfort. Salads, ribs and mashed potatoes are often on the menu. The clients have to learn to trust their bodies and enjoy food. Vegetarian diets are accommodated. All meals are closely supervised and monitored.
Rules and Regulations
Prior to admission, clients need to provide the following documentation: history and physical, lab blood work, urinalysis, urine drug screen, EKG, bone density scan, TB PPD.
The cost of Castlewood’s treatment is $33.000 for 30 days. The staff helps potential clients to determine financial responsibilities and resources. Castlewood is licensed as a Residential Treatment Center, so each insurance policy must have benefits for residential treatment.
This treatment center accepts most major private insurance companies, but is not licensed as a Medicare, Medicaid or Tricare provider.
