Overview of Destination Hope

Destination Hope is a behavioral health facility for adult men and women which located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and was founded in 2006. The center provides treatment plans and options for individuals suffering from mental health and substance abuse disorders. The facility also provides dual diagnosis treatment for patients battling co-occurring disorders. The treatment center aims to provide clients with innovative therapeutic approaches to recovery and personalized treatment plans designed to meet each client’s individual needs. The rehab programs offered are age and gender-specific and usually last between 1-3 months. Sylvia Brafman Mental Health Center, the center’s affiliate program also located in Fort Lauderdale, offers mental health treatment services to men and women suffering from various mental health problems including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, schizophrenia, and many other illnesses. Sylvia Brafman also provides partial hospitalization and outpatient mental health clinic programs for clients in need of it. Destination Hope offers separate treatment tracks for men and women. The women’s treatment program offers treatment options specific to women’s unique challenges in addiction. Eating disorders, substance addiction, post-partum depression, and a host of other problems are treated in the program. The women’s program also provides detox referrals (detox services are unavailable on site), residential, intensive outpatient, and dual diagnosis treatment. The facility’s program for men provides dual diagnosis and substance abuse treatment for men battling with addiction. Intervention, trauma resolution, aftercare, and outpatient programs are some of the treatment options at the facility. A family addiction counseling program is also available for families struggling with addiction. The facility has a treatment team consisting of licensed mental health counselors and social workers, doctors, and nurse practitioners.

Living and Food at Destination Hope

The programs offered at the center are gender-specific and so, men and women live in separate areas during their stay. The purpose of this is to help clients focus on achieving long-lasting recovery and eliminate distractions. Apartments consist of two bedrooms which accommodate up to four residents. The apartments also have living rooms with TVs, modern kitchens, and comfortable bedrooms. Residents are transported to the main facility for meetings and therapy. Each apartment complex has a pool with lounge chairs and tables. Residents may engage in fitness using the gym and tennis court. For meals, grocery cards are given to clients weekly to purchase necessary items. Food at the facility can be prepared as a group or individually.

Treatment at Destination Hope

The facility offers various therapy options depending on the unique needs of the client. Some of these are:

Inpatient Residential Program

The inpatient residential program provides dual diagnosis support, individual and group therapies, and 12-step meetings for men and women in need of inpatient treatment. Although the center does not provide an alcohol and drug detox program in both tracks for men and women, recommendations are usually made to other trusted facilities. The program may last for about 30-90 days.

Intensive Outpatient Program

The center offers an intensive outpatient program for women and men. This is an intensive, part-time program is designed for clients that are already engaged with work, school, and/or other commitments but still need professional help with addiction issues. The program runs for a few hours each day and is less structured and supervised than the inpatient program.

Destination Hope costs approximately $18,000 for a 30-day program but the prices vary greatly depending on what program a client is registered into. Clients are advised to call the facility to have a private conversation which entails information on; Insurance benefits and coverage, payment options and plans, financial arrangements, and plans for travel. Self-pay rates are also available to clients who require this. The facility accepts most insurances as they are in-network with most insurance providers. Jon holds a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Psychology and a Master’s degree from the Florida Atlantic University majoring in Mental Health Counseling. He has over 12 years’ experience in the behavioral health sector developing skills to treat issues like dual diagnosis, men’s issues (addiction and mental health), and trauma. He is licensed by the State of Florida to practice Mental Health Counseling.

Brandhi Hixon

Acting Lead Therapist (Destination Hope Women’s Program)

Brandhi holds a Master’s degree from the Nova Southeastern University majoring in Marriage and Family Therapy. She has been working at the facility since 2015 and now serves as the primary therapist in their mental health program. She manages all young and mature women’s program at Destination Hope respectively.

Sarah Kostrub

Director of Clinical Services (Destination Hope Women’s Program)

Sarah holds a Master’s degree majoring in Social Work and has over 15 years’ experience working in the mental health and behavioral sector. She has worked in private and community mental health settings in both mental health and substance abuse fields. She is licensed by the State of Florida to be a Clinical Social Worker.
