The Wekiva Springs Cente Overview

The Wekiva Springs Center which has been open for 14 years, is a rehabilitation center in the beautiful state of Jacksonville, Florida. This center aims to help patients recover and return healthy to their families and communities in the right mental and psychological state. Both inpatient and outpatient treatment are offered here at different locations. Detoxification and rehab services are available to adults who are struggling with substance abuse, mental health and in some cases dual diagnosis. The treatment plan is designed to help patients going through a crisis and stabilize them. The dual diagnosis treatment consists of a 12-step model for treating men and women dealing with psychiatric illness and a combination of cognitive behavioural techniques. This center boasts of a military program in which active duty/ veterans who experience PTSD, depression and anxiety disorders are treated with various medical and psychological techniques, an EDMR technique is also available in this facility which is very successful in treating a wide range of emotional problems. Additionally, the highly trained and experienced staff help distinguish this center from others with their warm hospitality and ability to care for patients making recovery as easy as possible. Housing and Food

The Wekiva Springs Center rooms are designed like a hotel, comfortable two bed rooms, large dressers each with their own bathroom, this is a 68-bed facility for strictly adults, with a goal of making residents as comfortable as possible, the buildings are co-ed with some floors for one gender. The halls are designed with mild warm coloured paints and hardwood floors with the dining area set in a communal manner to foster interaction between patients so no one is isolated. Provisions are made for residents to do their own laundry hence not many clothes are required when checking in. There are indoor gyms available for recreational activities along with an indoor court and swimming pool (which is used depending on the season). Meals are not made by special request but there is an accommodation for those who are vegetarian to get meals which suit them specifically, meal service style is a buffet.

Sheila received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Florida State University which led to her being certified by the State of Florida as a clinical supervisor for counseling and social work, she is Clinical Social Worker in the State of Florida.

Atul Shah
MD, Medical Director

Atul Shah specializes in psychiatric pain management, ECT and consultation & liaison psychiatry. He treats adult and geriatrics.
Dr. Shah is a certified psychiatrist who has 25 years’ worth of experience in private practice, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio was where he attended to have his residency done.
He uses his skills to give his patients the best of care and attention.

Barb Estes
RN-BC, Director of Nursing

Barb Estes attended Florida State University, she has over 30 years’ experience in the nursing field which also includes experience as a local psychiatrist.
She has been vastly involved in delivering care to seniors with health issues and gained knowledge of how to treat patients who are ailed by Alzheimer’s and dementia, she is dedicated to her work.
