Anchor Hospital Overview

Situated on a 55-acre plot of land in Atlanta Georgia, Anchor Hospital was founded in 1986. It specializes in treating behavioral and addiction-related disorders for patients of all ages. The facility is accredited by the Joint Commission and is one of the two operated by the Southern Crescent Behavioral Health System. It sits less than three miles from America’s busiest airport, The Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
Anchor Hospital is one of two facilities which form the Southern Crescent Behavioral Health System in Atlanta. The facility offers their services to adolescents, adults, and seniors. The facility is Service friendly, providing a unique program, TRICARE, for Servicemen and Veterans.

Housing at Anchor Hospital

Anchor Hospital houses 122 beds. The facility is divided into dorm-style buildings that house a total of 30 people, 15 males and 15 females. The building is co-ed with a shared kitchen, dining room and reading quarters. Both males and females are separated during recovery.
Patients are treated to three meals per day, or they may even order take out. Snacks are also served in the evenings. The shared kitchen may be used to store patients’ snacks and drinks.
Generally, the length of stay does not exceed 28 days as the patient is usually transitioned to outpatient treatment in a relatively short time. The setup is similar to an independent living facility, as visitation is permitted and patients can easily arrange outings.

Treatment Options at Anchor Hospital

The chemical dependency program provides adults with treatment, following the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). The program includes:

  • 12 Step lectures
  • Step work preparation
  • Expressive therapy
  • Daily AA meetings
  • Family Sessions

Outpatient programs allow patients to continue about their day to day lives while receiving comprehensive treatment for addiction disorders. Through day or evening programs, patients can receive comprehensive treatment for psychiatric or addiction disorders and still return to home or school each day. The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a step down from an inpatient. This program helps to treat patients who are experiencing a behavioral crisis and need stabilization but does not necessarily need to be fully hospitalized. This service is offered seven days per week.

The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is arranged to strike a work-life balance for patients. The patient may book sessions 3-5 days per week to suit their needs. The IOP Flexible programming hours allow the patient to schedule 3-5 days per week that are most appropriate to meet their needs. Day sessions are available seven days per week while the evening sessions are only offered on select days.

Payment Options at Anchor Hospital

Anchor Hospital lists only three payment options on their website. The list is as follows:

  • Medicare
  • Managed Medicare
  • TRICARE for Servicement

The website goes on to state that they do not accept traditional Georgia Medicaid. They invite patients, however, to call them to get details on other payment options that they may have available.
The website failed to list costs, but patients can be expected to dish out roughly $1,960 per week, which puts this facility more on the affordable side.

Amenities at Anchor Hospital

The amenities at Anchor Hospital are very basic. Patients can expect to utilize a shared reading and writing room. A shared kitchen is available for patients to store snacks and beverages. If the basic amenities are not enough, it is fairly easy to arrange outings with the facility’s administration.

Lloyd Noble – Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Portland native, Lloyd Noble joined the staff of the in 2017. He has used his time at the helm of the organization to assist in transforming the hospital’s culture, working towards having the facility become recognized as a leader in the behavioral healthcare sector. Lloyd has a BSc from Eastern Oregon University and a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from Grand Canyon University.

Dr. Shailesh Patel – Medical Director

The Medical Director, Dr. Shailesh Patel graduated in 2003 from the Drexel College of Medicine located, in Philadelphia and then completed an MBA in Health Care Administration at the same institution. Dr. Patel did his psychiatric residency at the University of Florida, finishing in 2008. He joined the Anchor hospital team in 2010, and 2014 became the Medical Director for the Southern Crescent Behavioral Health System.

Tim Bryant– Director of Outpatient Services

Director of Outpatient Services, Tim Bryant, joined the team in 2007. He brings with him a wealth of experience after years of working with a diverse cross-section of patients, including and not limited to children, couples, and sex offenders. Tim believes in a holistic approach, which he implements in both his treatment and leadership strategies. He is a top-notch clinician with a burning passion for community support services for substance abuse. Born in New Jersey, Tim obtained his master’s degree from Rutgers University School of Social Work.

Shalunda Wimes, RN, MSM – Chief Nursing Officer

The Alabama native, Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), Shalunda Wines brought 20-plus years of experience in management when she joined the team. She is responsible for guiding the nursing services in the right direction. She is known as a hands-on leader with a very strong work ethic. Shalunda is a Registered Nurse (RN) in both The State of Georgia and The State of Florida. She has a Bachelor in Business Administration and an MBA in Management Faulkner University.
