The Hamilton House Overview

The Hamilton House, located in Dorchester, Massachusetts, is a behavioral health organization operating under the non-profit agency called The Gavin Foundation. The facility offers a gender-specific residential program to men seeking treatment. The Gavin Foundation operates multiple locations in Massachusetts and its treatment is heavily rooted in the tradition of 12-steps.
Hamilton House aims to help clients reintegrate into the community, gain full-time employment, adapt to independent living, and get their lives back. Clients being housed at the facility are required to be registered at an outpatient treatment facility and must attend house meetings before joining the working phase. The outpatient program is typically a 10 to 12-day process and clients are required to participate in both group and individual therapy. The treatment technique used during treatment is Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical behavioral therapy, 12-step, and Cognitive behavioral therapy. Clients seeking detox services may not find such here and individuals are required to have completed detox before enrolling into the organization.
The house organizes 12-step meetings for six nights a week and all residents are required to attend, as attendance is mandatory. Residents are also required to obtain a sponsor that will provide guidance as they work the steps.
If a client schedule permits, they can attend off-site meetings, but it is not mandatory. As clients progress in treatment and are ready to start working, the house gives the afternoon off for job hunting. Curfew is at 11 pm for clients who already have jobs and they must return to the facility at 5 pm for dinner. Clients must consent to be given random drug tests during their stay at the facility, as this is done to ensure complete abstinence. Designated visitation time is during the weekends and the staff of the facility consists of licensed alcohol and drug counselors, peer counselors, and nurse practitioners.
