Overview of NorthStar Regional

NorthStar Regional formerly known as the Five Stars Recovery Center is a rehabilitation center that offers treatment services for substance abuse, mental health issues, marital or family issues, and other behavioral health disorders to adults. The mission of NorthStar Regional is to provide quality care services to patients of substance abuse and mental health disorders. The services are provided in a compassionate and understanding environment where clients are offered hope and healing. The center offers outpatient counseling, residential treatment, and ongoing recovery support to adult men and women. The treatment is based on the philosophy that substance abuse and mental health issues have underlying causes which need to be addressed to ensure lasting recovery for the clients. The credential staff at the center determines those underlying causes and provides personalized treatment to each client to ensure complete healing and sustained recovery. The center provides a complete continuum of care in a confidential, safe, and supportive environment. Each client is treated with respect and dignity throughout the treatment. Through innovative solutions and holistic therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy, experiential therapies, and 12-step meetings, clients are empowered to adopt a healthier lifestyle to reclaim their lives and become independent and productive members of the society.

Housing and Food at NorthStar Regional

NorthStar Regional offers its residential program at the Sugar Creek Campus in Chaska, Minnesota. The campus comprises a building that is built in old, brick architecture which is beautifully preserved. The campus has modest living arrangements for residents in the form of bedrooms that are shared among 2 to 3 individuals. The rooms are furnished with twin beds, side tables, and closets for each client. Each room has an attached bathroom. All basic amenities such as bed linen, towels, and bathroom supplies are provided by the center. There is a living room at the facility where residents can relax and watch TV. The living room is furnished with comfortable sofas and chairs. Clients are provided with internet facility as well as cable. The center also offers recreational opportunities for clients in the form of outdoor and indoor activities. These include games, sports, yoga, walks, and other relaxing activities. There is a cafeteria inside the building where a kitchen staff prepares nutritious and delicious food for residents. Residents are provided with three daily meals which are served and eaten in the cafeteria. The kitchen staff also accommodates special dietary specifications or restrictions of clients while preparing the meals. A variety of food and drinks are available at each meal time.

Payment Options at NorthStar Regional

NorthStar Regional offers comprehensive and individualized treatment services to adult men and women for substance abuse, mental health issues, and co-occurring disorders. The cost of treatment depends on the chosen treatment plan. The approximate cost of treatment is around $6,500 for 10 and a half weeks of treatment. Depending on the individualized treatment plan, the duration of stay could be different for each client which would change the treatment cost. The center accepts insurance plans of all major insurance providers. The staff at the admissions office helps clients and families in providing all financial and insurance-related information.

NorthStar Regional Advantages

NorthStar Regional is the new name of the Five Stars Recovery Center that was established in 2006. It started out as an outpatient treatment facility which later on included the sober living program and residential treatment. The center provides a private, confidential, and supportive environment where clients can embark on the road to recovery. Each client is assessed and evaluated as an individual so that the underlying cause of their addiction or mental health issues could be identified. The treatment plan is devised accordingly to address each client’s case and issues. A number of therapeutic approaches and therapies are employed as part of the treatment to ensure the best success rate. These therapies include individual and group counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy, and 12-step meetings. The holistic treatment approaches help in addressing the physical, psychological, and emotional needs of clients so that they can heal as a whole person.

Hal Baumchen, PsyD, LP, LADC
Clinical Director

Dr. Hal has a Masters degree in Psychology from the Wheaton Graduate School. He received his Doctorate of Psychology from Illinois School of Professional Psychology. He is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LP) and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC). He has over 30 years of experience in providing counseling services to adolescents and adults. He also specializes in the treatment of co-occurring disorders.

Thomas Winegarden, MD
Medical Director and Addiction Medicine Specialist

Dr. Winegarden received his doctorate degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School. He is a Board Certified Adult and Addictions Psychiatrist. His areas of expertise include treating bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, attention deficit disorder, and addictions.

Jason Vanderscoff, LADC
Chief Executive Officer

Jason serves as the CEO of the NorthStar Regional. He is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors (LADC) who specializes in treating substance abuse, mental health issues, and co-occurring behavioral health disorders. At NorthStar Regional, he oversees the various programs and financial matters while devising the overall strategy for the organization.
