Morris Village Overview

Morris Village Alcohol and Drug Addiction Treatment Center, located in the capital city of Columbia and serving all of the 46 counties of South Carolina, is a residential addiction treatment facility for adults aged 18 and older which opened in 1975 and has provided inpatient care to thousands of recovering addicts. Since the state approved the involuntary commitment of individuals with substance dependency issues in 1987, the center has evolved to tend to the needs of people involuntarily committed to recovery. The treatment center joined the network of the Columbia Behavioral Healthcare Services in 2004—a group of inpatient facilities in the Columbia region providing behavioral healthcare treatment for adolescents and adults. The center’s approach to addiction is treating as a disease with social, emotional, physical, and spiritual effects. The facility offers evidence-based, efficient treatment and offers programs which address cultural and gender-specific needs. Patients dealing with co-occurring disorders could also receive individualized care at the facility. Among the services provided by the facility are comprehensive assessments, medical stabilization, inpatient services, and detox. The treatment center boasts of excellent, highly trained staff consisting of activity therapists, physicians, addiction counselors, and nursing personnel.

Accommodation And Food

The center seeks to provide a safe, comfortable, and nurturing environment for clients to receive treatment. The center is structured like a small residential community in order to foster the spirit of togetherness. 14 cottages on-site act as the living areas for the residents and clients share bedrooms, three to a room. A central courtyard in the facility surrounds the library, administrative offices, cafeteria, barbershop, and the infirmary. Additionally, the village has a learning and resources center, occupational therapy buildings, a physical activities center, a cafeteria, and an assembly hall. Residents are advised to bring 5 days’ worth of comfortable, modest clothing. Revealing apparel, food, pornographic items, personal electronic or audio-visual equipment, alcohol-containing items, and many other items are prohibited at the facility. Food is served the facility’s cafeteria.
