Westcare Nevada Overview

Based in Nevada within which the vibrant city of Las Vegas is located, the Westcare Nevada centers are behavioral health treatment facilities for adults, families, and veterans dealing with various types of issues ranging from alcohol and drug addiction to mental health and co-occurring mental health disorders. The treatment centers have been established for more than 40 years and have been providing support and treatment services to persons in need ever since. Westcare Nevada exists under the Westcare Foundation, a non-profit organization which provides various programs across the continuum of human and health services. The organization operates in eighteen states across the US and three US territories. Additionally, the organization offers services for not just adults and families but for children and adolescents as well. Patients dealing with issues of domestic violence, substance abuse, homelessness, and mental health disorders will find help at the organization. The Nevada centers offer trauma-informed, personalized treatment plans and also offers special programs including services for veterans and pregnant and parenting women. The centers also offer support services for persons dealing with co-occurring disorders and a crisis stabilization program. Accommodation & Food

The Serenity program designed for women 18 years and older is a residential treatment center which also provides social detox services for adolescents. Children are also accommodated in this program. The center is equipped with a basketball court, an indoor playroom, and a playground. Clients can be entertained with board games and TVs in the common areas and rooms are shared usually by residents without children while families are accommodated in the same room. The residential program for men and adolescent boys is offered at the Harris Springs Ranch Men’s Residential. The center is surrounded by stretches of farmland and hills and is quite isolated. Like the women’s residential facility, rooms are shared between clients. The organization also provides a transitional living unit for male veterans at Reno, Nevada. The housing units can accommodate up to 20 persons and provides one or two bedroom apartments for its participants.

Residential Treatment

The organization offers separate residential treatment programs for men and women. Both treatment programs cater to persons dealing with substance abuse issues and facilitate behavioral change through the utilization of positive peer pressure and support. The programs are highly structured and involve counseling, education, lectures, and self-help support groups.

Intensive Outpatient Program

This program, provided by the community center, is offered to men and women in two different levels. The treatment services are gender-specific and focus on breaking negative behavior patterns. Patients are taught decision-making and effective coping skills and clients suffering from co-occurring disorders will also find help in this program.

Westcare Foundation costs approximately $400 to $3,000 for a 30-day treatment at the facility but this price is subject to change as it is greatly dependent on the kind of treatment and level of care a client requires. Clients are advised to contact the facility for more information on payment and admission.

The facility is accredited by the CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities).

Westcare Foundation Advantages

The foundation offers help to youth offenders who have been sent by the Nevada Youth Parole Bureau. This help involves a special outpatient program and meetings are held weekly as well as individual sessions and drug court hearings weekly. The foundation also offers counseling (substance abuse) to inmates of Nevada State Prisons as well as convicts in transitional living and on probation. Family programs such as Healing Families Workshop (one day workshop) is offered to families and loved ones of addicts to help educate them on addiction, consequences, and relapse prevention.

President and Chief Executive Officer

Richard holds a Bachelor’s degree from California State University in Psychology and a Master’s degree from the University of Nevada in Rehabilitation Counseling. Richard has over 30 years of experience working in the behavioral health field. Prior to holding the position of CEO, he served in other capacities at different organizations such as US Army Medical Corps as a Clinical Specialist and Long Beach Veteran’s Hospital as an Educational Therapy Assistant.

Peggy Quigg
Executive Vice President

Peggy has over 25 years of experience working in the behavioral health field and used to volunteer at a local community anti-drug coalition. She manages and supervised all senior staff in all locations in the United States and used to work in law enforcement before joining Westcare.

Ken Ortbals
Chief Financial and Information Officer

Ken manages, supervises, and is responsible for all data infrastructure and information management systems development, maintenance, and implementation in electronic information technology and information management division. Prior to holding the position at Westcare, he served in other capacities at different organizations such as the First Call, where he served as Technology Director and COO (Chief Operating Officer).
