New Horizon Counseling Center is a nonprofit agency that provides integrated treatment to individuals who are suffering from alcohol, substance use, and mental health disorders. This facility has numerous units all across Queens, Brooklyn, and Nassau County. The main office of New Horizon Counseling Center is located in Ozone Park, New York.
This facility was founded by Dr. Isaac Bechor in 1981 after considerable budget cuts in state-owned mental health services. Dr. Bechor established the first treatment center in Ozone Park for indigents who were struggling with mental health disorders. At this time, New Horizon Counseling Center operates various outpatient units that focus mainly on mental health treatment for children, adolescents, and adults. There is only one clinic for outpatient services for chemical dependency, which is located in Valley Stream on Long Island. Unfortunately, no inpatient services are allocated at this facility.

New Horizon Counseling Center operates all through New York for outpatient services but the facility works on a smaller operation when it comes to chemical dependency outpatient programs. Unfortunately, this facility does not offer a 12-Step based recovery program. The NHCC focuses to build self-esteem in adults through group therapy along with relapse prevention, conflict resolution, sober living, and setting goals.

Barry Klaung serves the New Horizon Counseling Center team as the Executive Director. He received his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Minnesota and his master’s degree in Professional Counseling from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. Klaung is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). His areas of interest include abuse intervention services, counseling men, group counseling services, etc.

Ashley Abate – Clinical Therapist

Ashley Abate is Clinical Therapist at New Horizon Counseling Center. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Iowa. She attended Loras College as a graduate school and received her master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with specialization in Counseling from there. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). Abate worked as an intern at NHCC before joining the medical team at this facility.

Kelley Munda – Therapist

Kelley Munda joined the team of New Horizon Counseling Center as a therapist in the year 2003. She received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Northern Illinois University. Munda attended Southern Illinois University as a graduate school and received her master’s degree in Education from there. She is a licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC).

Laurie Ruthe – Executive Assistant
