Credo Community Center Overview

Situated in the city of Watertown, New York, Credo Community Center is a mental health and addiction rehab center for men, women, and adolescents looking to overcome substance abuse and mental health problems. The facility has had its adolescent program since 1973, offering individual and group therapy as well as educating these young adults in the lessons of responsibility. Individuals registered at the facility are assigned chores to give them a form of responsibility and also to keep the facility clean. The average duration of stay for residents in the facility ranges from 6 to 8 months. Within this time, clients gain up to 40 hours of active treatment per week and at least two individual therapy sessions. With support for dual diagnosis, the farm provides treatment and also assessment for individuals suffering from co-occurring disorders. The facility conducts sessions and classes for residents such as smoking cessation education, GED classes, weekly relapse prevention classes, vocational skills, and more.
For one night per week, 12-step meetings are offered to clients on-site. Clients are allowed to have visitations and from family or loved ones and family groups holds twice monthly (first and third Sunday) for all parents and guardians. The average duration of a lengthened stay for clients registered in the women’s program may vary from six to twelve months.
After completion of a primary residential program, clients can step down to outpatient treatment which is offered to adults and adolescents. Halfway houses are available and clients can participate in recreational therapy which may include fishing, picnic outings, volleyball, golfing, fishing, softball, and many more. The organization currently offers two men’s halfway houses in Watertown.

Accommodation & Food

The facility’s women’s intensive residential program is set just outside the downtown Watertown and is a beautifully renovated home. All clients at the facility share duties and responsibilities regarding the upkeep of the home and groups as well as tending to the vegetable garden. Women 16 years and older, women with toddlers, and pregnant women are accepted into the program. The house has the capacity to house 15 women at a time and depending on the number of women registered into the facility; up to four women can share a room. The first floor offers a lounge or common area fully equipped with a television, dining room, kitchen, and counseling offices. Two large bedrooms all en-suite are available for women who have children. All food menus have been specially vetted and designed by staff members and on-site kitchen staff is available to prefer and serve meals to clients.
The Farm also offers a 25-bed facility with dormitory accommodations within a holistic rehabilitative environment. The facility admits young men between the ages of 16 and 20, and up to four clients share a room with restroom facilities and two public (YMCA style) showers on each floor. The facility provides 3-square meals a day as well as assigns clients with chores such as cleaning up and others.

Clients in this program are offered maximum support with the help of the facility’s qualified staff team as they manage a work-out and live-in routine.

Credo Community Center costs are calculated using a sliding scale basis. This means that evaluation is down to find out the treatment the client requires, and then the price is calculated based on the client’s household income.vary depending on the type of treatment and level of care a client requires. The facility currently accepts most major insurance plans and is also Medicaid eligible. A licensed childcare worker is available on-site in the women’s residential program to watch over pre-school kids, while their mothers attend meetings or are getting treatment. Clients who have completed a 90-day treatment are allowed to go on out and take part in fun activities with their children such as library excursions, picnics, parks, movies, museums, and more, all with approval from the counselor or caseworker.

James holds a Master’s degree from Adelphi University in Social Work and has been the facility for over 30 years now. He has served on multiple boards as well as on the Alcohol Substance Abuse Council (ASAC) for over 6 years. He has also been a member of the NYS Behavioral Health Services Advisory Council since 2013.
