Overview of Freedom House Recovery Center

Freedom House Recovery Center is a non-profit treatment center for individuals suffering from addiction, behavioral and/or mental health issues. Founded in the town of Chapel Hill in 1974 as a non-profit detox center and a half-way house for adults in recovery, the center has grown to become one of the largest providers of substance abuse and behavioral health care in North Carolina. The agency provides individualized, comprehensive treatment for adolescents, children, and adults. The center also treats families who suffer from mental illness, addiction, and other various forms of behavioral issues. The center has facilities in Chapel Hill, Norlina, Vance, Durham, Franklinton, Pittsboro, and many others. Freedom House Recovery Center also has a special program for children and adolescents and offers help to children as young as 3 years old. Children with depression, anxiety, and other behavioral problems are assessed and an individualized treatment plan is designed for their benefit. Children may receive medication management, intensive in-home therapy, peer group therapy, or outpatient treatment. The highly qualified medical staff consisting of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and therapists take care of the children. The center offers outpatient programs for adults at many counties in North Carolina and also offers a child and adolescent outpatient program in Chapel Hill. The facility also offers a half-way housing program for men and women, which may last up to six months and crisis services. A Family Advocacy Network (FAN) is available at the facility which provides group support and parenting skills training for parents raising children with behavioral problems, mental illnesses, substance abuse problems, and learning difficulties.

Residential Services

The residential services are designed for adults going through the process of addiction recovery and those battling co-occurring disorders. Clients may stay for up to six months and all houses are fully-staffed. Personalized treatment plans are created for each individual and necessary life skills are taught to each participant.

Outpatient Treatment

The center offers outpatient services for adults, children, and adolescents in need of various forms of behavioral, mental, and/or addiction illnesses. The facilities help each individual participant resolve short-term problems and manage serious mental disorders. Some of the services offered include clinical assessment, peer support, family and group therapy, and medication management.

Pricing

Freedom House Recovery Center uses the sliding scale method for payment of treatment by clients which means, clients that earn less pay relatively less and clients that earn more, pay more. The sliding fee scale is for clients without insurance coverage or benefits that don’t cover the cost of treatment. The facility takes all patients, and those without the ability to pay have options as well. The cost of treatment varies greatly depending on the program in which a client is registered into. Clients are advised to call the facility as Financial Counselors are available to help with payment plans and insurance benefits. Insurance and funding accepted include:

Freedom House Recovery Center Advantages

Although the facility provides a comprehensive and well-rounded intervention and outpatient program, they also offer clients which the option of registering into a halfway house or a transitional home as a discharge plan upon completion of a program. The transitional home program’s average duration is 30 days but clients can stay for up to six months at the halfway house. Clients enrolled in any of these two programs are provided with outpatient treatment, structured daily activities, supervision, and a strict set of rules. The facility offers treatment to both adolescent and adults seeking treatment from mental health and substance abuse disorder and clients desiring sobriety. Staffs at the facility are qualified professionals whose main goal is to guide patients towards living a life of sobriety by promoting long-term recovery.

Ivy Williams

Director, Human Resource

Ivy earned a Diploma from Saint Vincent Academy. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Barry University and a Master’s degree from the same university in Social Work Administration. Before joining the facility in 2013, she held the position of Community Relations Manager at the Cardinal Innovations Healthcare Solutions and Human Resources Director at the OPC Area Program for over six years.

Janaki Nicastro
Director, Facilities and Credentialing

Janaki holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Marquette University majoring in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Before holding the position of Director of Facilities and Credentialing at Freedom House he worked with Canon USA for six years holding the position of Marketing Project Manager.

Heather Griffin-Dolciney
Regional Clinical Operations Director

Heather holds a Bachelor’s degree from Emerson College where she majored in Writing, Literature, and Publishing. She also earned a Master’s degree from Hunter College (New York) where she majored in Social Work. Before holding the position of Regional Clinical Operations Director which is a relatively new position (3 months), she held the position of Clinical Director for eleven years at the same facility. She worked at the Center for Urban Community Services for over four years holding positions such as; Assistant Director and WMR Program Manager before moving to Freedom House Recovery Center.
