North Dakota Drug Rehab Centers & Treatment Options

north dakota rehabs

North Dakota developed a reputation for substance abuse and addiction. While North Dakota drug rehabs do their best to fight back against this epidemic, it still rages on.

Addiction In North Dakota

North Dakota isn’t the first state that comes to mind when thinking about substance abuse and addiction. In fact, it has one of the lowest rates of addiction in the nation, ranking 47th among all states and the District of Columbia. However, this does not mean that substance abuse treatment in North Dakota is not needed.

Addiction is still very much present in the state. As the statistics show, just because it ranks low on the list of states battling addiction does not mean residents aren’t in need:

  • North Dakota sees 9.2 drug overdose deaths per 100,000 persons in the state. While this is well below the national rate of 21.7, it is still higher than it should be.
  • The number of opioid prescriptions being written in the state is alarmingly high at 41.5 prescriptions per every 100 people.
  • More than 14 percent of high school students in the state admit to having abused these prescriptions at least once.
  • Drinking and driving is a major concern in the state, with the government acknowledging that there is a culture that encourages this, 50 percent of road deaths being tied to alcohol.
  • Addiction and abuse are pervasive enough that the majority of adults are adamant that they are a problem in their community.
  • Additionally, the state is a known point of entry for drug trafficking coming through Canada.
With that said, North Dakota is taking notable steps to remedy the issue. For example, it has created the Substance Use Disorder Voucher. The program provides financial support to those seeking drug and alcohol rehab in North Dakota. It has also pioneered a program specifically meant to stop overdoses from occurring, and when they do, ensuring the individual does not die.

How Native Communities Are Affected

Not all populations are impacted by addiction in the same way. The Native American population in North Dakota is particularly hard hit. Throughout the United States, Native Americans suffer from higher than average rates of substance abuse, including children and teens. Tribes in neighboring South Dakota have even sued drug manufacturers for contributing to this crisis.

In North Dakota, tribes have requested help from the government in battling back against the epidemic. The goal is to bring tribal councils and state officials together to manage addiction and treatment better. However, the results of this effort at collaboration remain to be seen.

Unfortunately, there are not enough rehab facilities that meet the specific needs of the tribal population of North Dakota. At the same time, the state government does it best, providing support and rehab programs. Despite the fact that there are many rehab centers in the state, the new ones are still in demand.

Selecting An Alcohol Or Drug Rehab In North Dakota

There are numerous licensed drug rehab providers in North Dakota. However, a significant issue with them is that they tend to be clustered around cities, leaving certain regions with fewer options than others.

With that said, anyone seeking recovery will be able to find substance abuse treatment centers in North Dakota that work for them. Patients can choose inpatient, partial hospitalization, and outpatient care. Different rehabs offer different forms of treatment, including detox, medications to manage addiction, and unique therapies. For every person battling addiction, there is a North Dakota substance abuse treatment that will fit their needs.

Drug Rehab To Staying Sober

Stopping substance abuse is never easy, but with the right assistance, it is possible. Drug rehabs in North Dakota are the path to a better life. With therapy and time, patients can get and stay sober for life.
