Overview of Foundations for Living
Foundations for Living is a residential treatment center for youth aged 11 to 18 suffering from dual diagnosis disorders and mental health issues. The mission at Foundations for Living is to provide quality patient care to youth in a comfortable and child-friendly environment through their Service Excellence philosophy. The center strives to meet the behavioral, emotional, mental, and psychological needs of each individual through a high level of professionalism, an individualized approach to treatment, trauma-informed care, licensed nursing care, commitment to personal wellness, special incentives, activities, and amenities for clients. Foundations for Living offers three separate treatment programs for girls and boys. One program is Visions which treats dual-diagnosis substance abuse issues, the second program is Passages which is a mental health program specific to girls, and the third one is Exploration which is a 45-days psychiatric and medical assessments program. The center also has an accredited school on campus that offers year-round schooling and block scheduling for students so they can continue their academic education during their treatment. Residents are also offered pre-GED training and testing to obtain a GED. The school’s staff is comprised of licensed teachers who use state-of-the-art technology such as smart boards and computers to help students recover their credits.
Housing and Food at Foundations for Living
Foundations for Living is located on 14 acres of rolling woods in Mansfield, Ohio. It is an 84-bed facility that provides a safe and secure environment for youths struggling with mental health issues and dual-diagnosis disorders. There are four units for patients with around 12 children per unit. The campus comprises two brick buildings with one designated for accommodating kids whereas the other building has administrative offices and therapy rooms. Patients stay in double-occupancy rooms with twin beds, desks, dressers, and closets for each one. All rooms are brightly colored and decorated to give a comfortable and home-like feel to kids. There are four bathrooms in each unit which all residents of that unit share. There are common rooms and recreation rooms where kids can engage in arts and crafts, games, sports, and leisure activities. The common rooms are painted in vibrant colors and decorated with artwork on walls. There is an in-house kitchen staff which prepares healthy and nutritious meals for clients. Clients are served meals in the cafeteria three times a day. They have a variety of food options to choose from including a salad bar at lunch and an afternoon fruit snack. A dietician prepares healthy menus for clients while taking into consideration their special dietary restrictions.

Payment Options at Foundations for Living
Foundations for Living offers short-term assessment as well as long-term residential treatment programs for troubled youths. Adolescents and teens struggling with psychiatric issues and dual-diagnosis disorders are treated individually based on their unique cases. The cost of treatment is around $14,265 for 30 days of treatment. The center works with some insurance companies where clients can get their fee to be paid through the insurance plans or get them reimbursed after payment. The admissions staff at Foundations for Living provides all relevant financial information about insurance coverage to prospective clients and families and helps them find the most affordable option.

Foundations for Living Advantages

The center provides a safe, secure, and peaceful environment where clients are able to focus on their healing and embark on the journey to recovery. Through various gender-specific programs, the center is able to help young boys and girls modify their behavior so as to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Teens suffering from anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other mental illnesses are provided with life skills education which helps them boost their self-esteem and become productive individuals. Through evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR, the staff enables clients to leave their past and old habits behind, and look forward to a future where they are able to control their emotions and become healthier and happier.

Chief Executive Officer
Karen Spires has an undergraduate degree in Social Work from the Capital University. She received her Master’s degree in Social Work from the Ohio State University. She is a highly experienced professional who has worked in various settings of mental health and substance abuse fields. Prior to joining Foundations for Living, she worked in inpatient care, employee assistance programs, community mental health services, and other residential care programs. She is trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Critical Incident Stress Debriefing. She has over 25 years of experience which also includes management experience in the behavioral healthcare industry.
Dr. John has been working with Foundations for Living for the past 10 years. He is the Medical Director at the center. He is Board Certified in Family Medicine. His areas of expertise include providing services as a family practitioner and caring for young patients suffering from psychiatric and dual-diagnosis disorders.
Josh Anderson joined Foundations for Living in 2010 and since then has been providing his expert services in the various designations that he served. These included Milieu Coordinator, Team Lead, Activities Director, and Unit Manager.
