Southwest Counseling Service Overview

Located in Rock Springs, a city in the Sweetwater County, Southwest Counseling Service is a community behavioral treatment center for adolescents and adults dealing with mental health and substance abuse issues. The center began in 1962 and was originally known as Sweetwater County Counseling before changing its name in 1965. The center has offices located in various regions in the Sweetwater Counter including Green River and Rock Springs. In the year 2000, the center started the first addiction program for women in the state and opened its first residential substance abuse treatment program for the community. The facility provides a wide range of professional treatment services for individuals dealing with mental health and substance abuse conditions. Some of these services include the residential treatment, traditional outpatient programs, and the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). These programs can be specific to adults, adolescents, or both groups. The center also incorporates a community-based treatment in which the organization provides therapeutic services to persons and/or their families in the community and in their homes. In addition, the center also offers aftercare services, residential living programs, and Individual Rehabilitation Services (IRS). The facility provides peer specialist services in order to provide support for individuals receiving recovery or mental health care services.

Accommodation And Food

The treatment center has three residential treatment programs—all designed for adults. The Rosen Recovery is the short-term residential treatment for men and women and clients are accommodated for about 3-6 months. The therapeutic community program lasts for 6-12 months and accommodates persons with past criminal behavior and/or substance abuse issues. The Women’s Addiction Program can accommodate mothers and pregnant women. Residents at the center usually have one roommate and are encouraged to tidy up their surroundings. Mothers in the Women’s Addiction Program can live with their children. Residents may exercise a few times per week.

The center offers some treatment and therapy services depending on the unique needs of the client. Some of these are:

Residential Program

The facility’s residential treatment program is offered in three tracks for adult men and women. The Women’s Addiction, Therapeutic Community, and the short-term residential program. All programs offer 24/7 support and provide holistic-based care. Participants in this program may also be allowed to support other recovering addicts.

Intensive Outpatient Program

Separate Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP’s) exist for men, women, and adolescents. Both the men and women IOP programs are undergone for at least 9 hours per week, for about 4-6 months. Both programs are also split into four phases. The adolescent program is tailored to persons between the ages of 12-17 and involves learning strategies for maintaining sobriety.

Residential Living Program

The residential living program consists of the Transitions Home and Supported Independent Living Program. The Transitions Home program for adults is strictly supervised and incorporates individualized treatment while the Supported Independent Living Program provides a semi-independent home for adults in need of minimal assistance with their daily lives.

Pricing

Southwest Counseling Services operates on a sliding scale basis which means that the price for treatment is dependent on the household annual income and is calculated as such. Although, the average cost for treatment is between $300 and $400. Clients are advised to contact the facility for more information on payment and admission process.

Accreditation

The facility is accredited by the CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) and the Wyoming Department of Health (Mental Health and Abuse Services).

Southwest Counseling Service Amenities

The facility offers an aftercare and discharge plan to clients who have completed a primary program and this continuing care consists of group and individual sessions which take place three times a week for 30 minutes each. Individuals in the recovery skills group meet once weekly for an hour 30 minutes to discuss coping skills, addiction, abuse, trauma, corrective thinking, and more.
The aftercare group consists of a therapeutic community that meets three hours a week to serve as continuing care for clients who have just recently completed a residential treatment. The group sessions take place to help reinforce the importance of living in sobriety, identifying triggers, and relapse prevention methods and techniques. This group meets twice a week and education classes for traffic safety, DUI, and alcohol is available to court-ordered individuals.
The facility offers multiple programs which cater to a range of substance abuse issues and also aftercare programs. Clients seeking a facility that builds a solid foundation for individuals with residential treatment and then scaling down to less intensive treatments at an affordable rate will find Southwest Counseling to be a good option.
