As Tangu proudly proclaims on its website, tangu is the Swahili word for “new beginnings.” The Tangu brand has two separate rehab facilities that serve Metro Atlanta as well as Cobb County.
The Tangu Inc. treatment and counseling center has been in operation since 1994. Tangu Inc. offers a variety of treatment and counseling services for substance abuse issues, as well as marital and relationship counseling.
Tangu Phase II stays more on the addiction and mental health side. Phase II provides outpatient treatments as well as sober living facilities to affected populations.
The Path Forward
Before receiving treatments for substance use disorders at Tangu, all entrants must be physically and mentally well enough to receive treatment. There are no onsite, medically supervised detox facilities at Tangu Phase II beyond the ambulatory kind.
The Tangu Phase II program accepts clients that range in age from 16 to 80 years old. Assessments for drug or alcohol addiction are usually the first step in the treatment process at Tangu Phase II.
Walk-in clients are welcome. Appointments can also be scheduled over the phone. Tangu also welcomes individuals mandated by courts to receive drug awareness or addiction education classes due to DUI convictions.
Tangu only offers treatment services through outpatient and partial hospitalization formats. They do have transitional living facilities for those persons who have been recently released from prison and need a stable home environment to get back on their feet.
Programs for All
Tangu offers all manner of treatment options to people seeking treatment for drug and alcohol addiction. Tangu treats not only substance abuse sufferers, but also those with dual diagnosis disorders through specially tailored programs that address mental health conditions.
Tanug offers opiate withdrawal services and treatment, in addition to the short-term detox if offers for other substances. Treatment at Tangu consists of addiction education classes and substance abuse awareness lectures, which are mostly directed toward those who have convictions for minor drug offenses.
Patients learn coping skills and relapse prevention techniques to help keep them sober. Social adjustment therapy aims at giving students new ways of dealing with anger and stress issues.
Group therapy also plays a significant part of Tangu’s treatment portfolio. Patients share their emotions within a safe, non-judgmental setting and learn to work through their feelings.
In conjunction with substance abuse treatments, patients can also make use of health and wellness activities at Tangu. The medical staff is on hand to help clients formulate their own wellness plans by learning healthy eating habits, practicing meditation and exercising daily.
Invaluable social supports also feature heavily at Tangu. Those patients living in transitional housing can receive help finding work or completing a GED program. A mentoring program helps recent graduates find stability by being paired with a senior mentor to help them avoid triggers.
The Tangu family of substance abuse services has been providing treatment for many in the Atlanta area for almost 20 years. Although they lack an inpatient residential program, Tangu hopes to build on their experience and continue to expand their treatment portfolio.
