Texas Star Recovery, located in Austin, Texas, is a treatment center that provides long-term care to individuals with mental health issues as well as, substance abuse disorder. The facility offers multiple programs ranging from inpatient to outpatient substance abuse treatment programs, and also offers detox to clients in need of it. Dual diagnosis support is offered and the facility has been around for over 60 years and in full operation.
The typical duration of a lengthened stay is between two to four weeks. After initial assessment which is done on intake, the counselor discovers the individual’s issue and gives the client a treatment plan. The treatment plan includes schedules as well as, individual and group therapy. Clients seeking detox will be moved to the detox unit and might remain there for three to five days, depending on the progress of treatment. The housing is designed to give off a “homely feeling”, complete with colorful textiles, plants, and traditional decorations.
A recreational area with a large expanse of land for taking walks and two swimming pools are available on campus for the use of clients. Assigned staff are required to supervise residents during this weekly swimming outings.
The treatment facility also makes available a common area, also known as the TV room, where clients can relax and call home using the unit phones available. At this time, personal computers and mobile phones are not permitted. Other services such as a free on-site laundry facility are available to residents.

Jenny holds a Master’s degree from Drexel University in Couple and Family Therapy, and another from the Biblical Seminary (Hatfield) in Divinity. She is currently fixing up the coursework for a Master’s degree from St. Mary’s University in Couple and Family Therapy. She is also licensed to practice family therapy.
