Alpha Home is a residential rehab facility that offers separate programs for men and women suffering from drug and alcohol addiction. It was established in 1966 and is the first gender-specific rehab center in San Antonio. It has over 50 years of experience in the field of substance abuse and behavioral health care. The mission of Alpha Home is to offer drug and alcohol treatment to patients through a spiritual approach. In the Residential Treatment, women are offered help, hope, and healing in a gender-specific facility so that they can embark on the road to recovery. Alpha Home integrates values such as spirituality, compassion, integrity, and respect in all of its dealings with clients and families. The center also provides dual-diagnosis treatment for behavioral disorders associated with addiction. The residential program at Alpha Home is based on the 12-step principles where patients are taught life skills to transition back into society. Alpha Home also offers an Outpatient Treatment Program for men and women aged 18 and above. The staff at Alpha Home is caring and qualified to treat patients as a whole. They understand that addiction affects the mind, body, and spirit of an addict. Hence, a holistic approach to treat all three of these is employed at Alpha Home.

Housing and Food

The main residential area of Alpha Home is the Mulberry Residence which can accommodate 31 adult females. The center is set in a beautiful facility with green lawns and trees surrounding the residential building. The peaceful and serene environment of the facility offers a safe and private place for women where they can start the process of healing and recovery. Residents stay in semi-private rooms shared between 2 members. Each room is furnished with single beds, side tables, closets, and dressers for residents. Bathrooms are shared among residents of each room. The facility also consists of a media center and a living room that has cable television. There is a meditation garden in the facility where residents indulge in meditation and thoughtful contemplation. Alpha Home has a large, fully-functional kitchen where the residents prepare meals themselves. Cooking duties are assigned to a group of residents and another group is responsible for cleaning afterward. The groups are switched every week. A food manager is assigned with the task of doing grocery shopping for food items. Special food requirements or dietary restrictions are also taken into consideration while preparing meals. Meals are served in the dining room where all residents eat together.
