Central Wyoming Counseling Center Overview

Central Wyoming Counseling Center, based in Casper Wyoming, started as a mental-health facility in 1959. Originally the facility was predominantly operated by volunteers but has now grown into a very well established substance abuse clinic. The facility offers inpatient treatment programs for both adults as well as adolescents dealing with substance abuse.

Central Wyoming Counseling Center Housing

The facility accommodates approximately 80 patients. The breakdown is as follows:

  • 40 adult males
  • 16 adolescents (ages 12-17)
  • 24 adult females – Allowed to board with children below 10 years of age (three children for each parent).

They are housed in different buildings located on the half-acre property. The rooms are designed dorm-style with anywhere from two to four persons in a room with twin beds for each individual. Each building is fitted with two to three communal restrooms, which are shared by the patients. Patients are treated to three healthy meals per day, with special dietary requests considered. All meals are prepared by a dietician.

Central Wyoming Counseling Center Treatment Options

The facility prohibits smoking and the use of electronic devices such as cellular phones and laptops. Any smokers admitted to the facility are provided with nicotine patches to help to quell the cravings. The first two weeks are considered a blackout period during which no phone calls or visits would be permitted. Following this blackout period, phone calls are permitted at the discretion of the patient’s caseworker. Visits are permitted, but limited to the patient’s immediate family who must be first approved by the facility’s treatment team.
An average stay at Central Wyoming Counseling Center is approximately 60 days, but this, of course, is totally dependent on the patient and the progress made during treatment.
Breakfast runs for approximately two hours and then is followed by treatment. Treatment sessions are tailored to each patient.
The following treatment options are available at Central Wyoming Counseling Center:

  • Inpatient Therapy
  • Intensive Outpatient Therapy
  • Individual therapy conducted by the patient’s assigned primary therapist.
  • Social Detox – Detox in the presence of peers with the assistance of a medical team.

Group therapy sessions are hosted at different time throughout the day, running until about 4:00 PM (inclusive of lunch). Each patient is assigned a therapist when they are admitted. This therapist will handle individual therapy with the patient one day per week.
Patients that are on medication get a chance to see the psychiatrist twice per month for medical management. This is to ensure patients are never without their necessary medication, as well as ensure the current equipment is working.
Once the inpatient program is successfully completed, patients may choose to continue with the outpatient program or intensive outpatient program. The intensive outpatient program hosts three meetings weekly. The length of enrolment in the intensive inpatient program is dependent solely on the patient’s progress.
The facility constantly maintains a staff to patient ratio of five to one, so that patients are well attended to when they are admitted to the facility.
