Fairmount Behavioral Health System provides behavioral health services to children, adolescents, and adults suffering from behavioral, psychiatric or addiction problems. It is one of the largest and leading providers of behavioral health services in Pennsylvania. Its mission is to provide a safe place for people to begin recovery and to help them develop healthy behavior. Each patient is provided with a personalized treatment experience where he/she feels empowered and develops healthy behaviors. The staff at Fairmount is highly qualified and experienced in their respective fields. They teach patients skills and coping mechanisms through love, compassion and dignity. The hospital specializes in mental health issues such as depression, attention deficit disorder (ADHD), suicidal thoughts or actions, extreme anger and aggression, drug and alcohol problems, anxiety and panic disorders, paranoia and bipolar disorder. Fairmount offers Inpatient Psychiatric Services for adults, children and adolescents, chemical dependency treatment, psychological services and psychiatric services. The hospital also offers gender-specific Inpatient Treatment Program for adolescent girls and Specialized Inpatient Trauma-Informed Program for Women. These gender specific programs for women and girls allow them to be open and candid about issues such as sexual trauma and domestic violence which otherwise would not have been possible in co-ed programs.

Housing and Food

Fairmount Behavioral Health System is located on 27 acres of beautiful landscape in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It offers a scenic, peaceful and therapeutic environment where patients can leave their worries behind and learn to develop healthy behaviors. Fairmount is a large facility that can accommodate 239 patients. The facility is built in modern architecture and offers all the basic amenities to its clients. Two patients share each room which are furnished with two beds, side tables, desks, chairs and small closets. The rooms are decorated in pastel colors and tones. The Children’s Unit is decorated in bright, vibrant colors. It has a comfortable sitting area, flat screen TV and story books. There is also a children’s classroom where child patients are provided academic education during their treatment. A classroom also exists for teenage patients where they can continue their education. The facility is surrounded by lush green lawns which provide a beautiful area for outdoor activities like sports, walks and meditation. A children’s playground with swings and slides is also available. There are separate cafeterias for children, adolescents and adults at Fairmount. Meals are served three times a day at each cafeteria. Each has its own dining area where patients sit together during meals.

Dr. Silvia Gratz
Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director of Admissions/Assessments

Dr. Silvia Gratz is a graduate Cum Laude at LaSalle University. She received her D.O. from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She joined the medical staff at Fairmount in 2006 and was appointed the Chief Medical Officer in 2011. She is Board Certified in the Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Her areas of expertise include Psychopharmacology and treatment of psychotic disorders.

Lee Silverman, MD
Attending Physician and Medical Director

Dr. Lee Silverman completed his medical school and residency in psychiatry at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He is Board Certified in Psychiatry. He had over 24 years of experience working at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital before joining Fairmount in 2016. His areas of expertise include treating refractory depression, schizophrenia, and other severe mental illnesses.

Stephen Prayson, DO
Attending Physician

Dr. Prayson has a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Kansas City University of Medicine. He completed his residency in psychiatry at the Center for Behavioral Medicine in Kansas City, Missouri. He joined Fairmount as an attending physician in 2016. He is also a former clinical faculty member of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and The DeSales Physician Assistant Program.
