California Alcohol And Drug Rehab Treatment Centers

The Golden State, which is home to Hollywood, the U.S. film industry life-blood, has experienced an increase in the drug presence within the state in the recent past. This has led to the establishment of drug rehab centers in California in efforts to curb drug addiction. Furthermore, in 2015, the state became the first in the country to introduce a drug waiver with hopes to improve California substance abuse treatment facilities for beneficiaries of Medicaid.

Substance Misuse In The State

Drug addiction treatment centers in California have a huge task at hand because about 8% of the state residents, which is about 2.4 million people, met the criteria for substance use disorder in 2016 alone. 6% of these people met the criteria for dependence on alcohol, while 3% for abuse of illicit drugs like cocaine and methamphetamine. Furthermore, every year, the government of the Golden State seizes about 800 pounds of heroin, 5,000 pounds of methamphetamine, 413,000 pounds of marijuana, and 18,000 pounds of cocaine.

What is more worrying is that according to the California Health Care Foundation (CHF), between 2010 and 2014, only about 7% of alcohol addicts received treatment in the various alcohol rehab centers in California. Within the same period, California drug rehab centers received only 12% for those suffering substance use disorder, meaning, most addicts do not access treatment.

Drug Addiction Treatment Options In California

With the huge disparities between those suffering from substance abuse disorder and those seeking therapy, the state government has set up several drug addiction treatment centers in California. Most of these rehab centers offer both inpatient and outpatient options with the following components:

  • behavioral therapy
  • medication-assisted treatment
  • recovery support services
  • gender-specific therapy
  • dual diagnosis treatment

Drug rehabs in California offer medication-assisted therapy programs as a standard of care for alcohol and opioid use disorder. In addition, the state is under the process of expanding this form of care with a target of over 20,000 people with opioid use disorder.

The expansion is much needed in the state because, according to the CHF, 25% of admission cases in California substance abuse treatment facilities were a result of heroin usage, with another 5% being caused by other opioid drugs. The majority of rehab centers accepts health insurance plans, which may cover part of the cost of therapy. Furthermore, California drug rehab centers may also have a sliding-fee structure based upon the income of the patient in addition to scholarships and grants.

Finding A Suitable Local Rehab Facility

For the residents struggling with substance abuse disorder or alcohol dependent, finding the most suitable rehab facility is a step in the right direction on the road to recovery. California alcohol rehab centers prioritize the recovery of patients by offering a 12-step recovery process. The state government, through the federal government, has also embarked on expanding the medication-assisted treatment program targeting opioid use disorder patients. In addition, to ensure equal opportunity for therapy, drug addiction treatment centers in California have established payment plans for patients and help them get third-party financing.
