Harmony Foundation Overview

Harmony Foundation was founded in 1969 by a group of men who were interested in helping others seek sobriety from alcoholism. After gathering up their resources, the men purchased a 42-acre plot of land on a piece of property known as “Harmony Ranch”. Originally a location for men to attend AA meetings, sober up, and then return home, the facility’s services expanded to include detoxification treatments, group therapy sessions, and evidence-based treatment designed to address issues of the mind, body, and soul. Since its inception, the non-profit facility has also aided up to 25,000 men and women find their way to sobriety. The facility rests on a mountain setting and offers clients a wide range of treatment programs like the residential treatment program, a Young Adult Recovery program (specifically for individuals between the ages of 18 to 23-year-olds. Experiential therapy is a common tool for recovery in the program), a medical detox program, and a Re-Commitment to Recovery Track which is a residential program offered for those who have relapsed within a year of finishing a residential program. At Harmony, each client has a personal counselor who designs a treatment plan that involves assessments, individual sessions, and recovery education classes. Additionally, clients at the facility attend 12-step meetings throughout the day and the facility provides a Transitional Care Program (TCP) for individuals who have completed a residential program. The centers’ clinical team consists of psychologists, primary therapists, clinical case managers, and spiritual and mental health counselors.

Accommodation & Meals

At Harmony, the strategy of recovery is making clients interact with their natural environment. The facility offers a country-style accommodation capable of taking in up to 74 residents. Clients in the transitional care program live in comfortable houses, separated by gender. The campus is expansive and features dining areas and treatment units in many of the areas. The facility has a registered dietitian who is keen on preparing nutritious, well-balanced meals and snacks. Many dietary restrictions are accommodated in the preparation of meals. The center advises residents to bring along with them a weeks’ worth of appropriate clothing, cash (up to $30), toiletries, prescribed medications in their original bottles, and a list of phone numbers they might want to call during their stay as electronic devices of any sort are prohibited in the facility. Also prohibited are perfumes, weapons, hand sanitizers, revealing clothing or clothing with inappropriate language, food or drinks, and over the counter medications.

Treatment & Therapy

The facility offers various levels of care for its patients. These include:

Detoxification

The facility provides a Residential Evaluation and Detoxification program (RED) for individuals who are seeking detox as well as medical assessments, mental health screening, withdrawal management services, and motivational groups. This may take from 3-10 days depending on the client.

Residential Addiction Treatment

In this program, the treatments provided to the clients are gender separate—men, women, and young adult programs—so as to address each of the genders differently and determine the factors that contribute to their addiction. Group therapy, yoga, and exercise are some of the treatment techniques used here. Clients suffering from mental health affliction or co-occurring disorder will be tended to by the facility’s medical team.

Transnational Care Program

The facility offers a transitional care program, which lasts for 3 months and focuses on helping individuals who have completed a residential treatment program maintain sobriety and wellness. Relapse prevention, group therapy, and Twelve Step recovery also take place in this program.

On admission into the facility, a deductible amount or co-payment is due to be made. The facility has many contracts with multiple commercial insurance providers and can verify the status of a client’s insurance. An online form can be filled on their website to verify if a client’s insurance provider is in-network with the facility and accepted.

Accreditation

The facility is licensed and accredited by The National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers and The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.

Why Harmony Foundation?

The facility’s clinical professionals offer an aftercare plan on discharge to allow clients to have a support system even after the initial treatment program. Aftercare groups cost nothing in some locations and previously registered patients are welcome to join and remain for as long as desired. The facility offers a very intensive family program as the belief is that the involvement of a client’s family is very important for success in the course of treatment. Only one family member is allowed to participate with a client for a therapy program, a fee is to be made if the clients want more than one family member. Visitors are allowed but are advised to visit on the weekends between the hours of 5 and 9:30 pm, children are only allowed in the afternoons on Sunday. Recreational activities include Music therapy, Acupuncture, Mindfulness and Meditation (Yoga), and many more including outdoor activities.
