Overview of High Watch Recovery Center

High Watch Recovery Center was founded in 1940 and is known as the world’s first treatment center based on the 12 step principles of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). It has over 75 years of experience in providing treatment for alcohol and drug addiction to adolescents, adults, and families. The mission at High Watch is to help each of its patients in healing and recovery from addiction, so that they are able to achieve lasting sobriety after leaving the center. Their set of values include respect, integrity, compassion, quality, teamwork, fiscal stewardship, and education. The trained and qualified staff act on these values while providing their services in a compassionate and respectful manner. They are able to instill in the patients the drive to move forward on the road to recovery and let the disease of addiction go into remission. High Watch Center offers a number of treatment programs which include Residential Programs as well as Extended Care Programs. The Extended Care Program makes their transition back into the community easy and helps them further in staying on the road to recovery. The center integrates the latest therapies and medical services along with the conventional 12-steps of AA in their treatments to empower patients to live sober once they leave the facility.

Housing and Food

Nestled between lush wooden grounds and landscapes, High Watch Recovery Center offers a beautiful and peaceful setting to its residents. The facility is spread across 200 acres of beautiful land that offers breathtaking views and natural beauty to its beholder. The buildings are constructed in old and colonial-style architecture with modern interiors. The residential area is called The Farm which is like a country bed and breakfast. The accommodations are beautiful and modern. Each patient has a separate room furnished with a twin bed, side table, lamps, and working space. The rooms are aesthetically decorated in pastel colors and shades. The common rooms are comfortably furnished and modernly equipped with a flat-screen TV as well. Patients have a huge, fully equipped gym with state-of-the-art equipment and gear. There is also a chapel and library in the facility. The center has a large dining hall in a barn where residents have their meals three times a day. The food prepared by the chefs and kitchen staff is nutritious and tasty. The chefs also accommodate different dietary restrictions while preparing meals. A salad bar is available at all meal times which includes fresh and healthy options. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options are also provided.

The cost of residential treatment is approximately $476 per day which comes at about $14,280 for a month. However, the center can extend this duration for another 45 days in the Extended Care Program free of cost. High Watch wants to make its treatment affordable to clients. Jerry has over 20 years of executive experience in the field of healthcare and social service. He is a member of the Connecticut Department of Public Health EMS Advisory Board. He is also the co-founder of Empowering Communities Worldwide. Before joining High Watch, he served as the Executive Director of an emergency medical service provider as well as Chairman of a large non-profit paramedic service.

Dr. David Hendricks
Medical Director

Dr. Hendricks received his Medical degree from Ross Medical School. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven, CT and his residency in Emergency Medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He is a board-certified Emergency Physician. Before joining High Watch, he served as the President of the Medical Staff at Griffin Hospital.

Alessandra Buonopane, MD
Director of Psychiatric Medicine

Dr. Buonopane received her medical degree with a summa cum laude from the University of Rome. She completed her residency in Neurology at the University of Rome and her residency in Psychiatry at the Yale University of Medicine. She also did her fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry from Yale University. Her areas of expertise include psychiatry, psychopharmacology, alcohol, and opiate dependence disorders.
