Housing and Food at The Palm Beach Institute

The Palm Beach Institute is one of the first rehabilitation and addiction treatment centers in South Florida. Situated over a vast area of land, its construction is modern and spacious. Patients, who are segregated according to gender for living, share rooms which are comfortably furnished and decorated. All the basic amenities are available in the rooms. Bathrooms are also shared among patients. Comfortable common rooms provide patients with a serene environment where they can relax and associate with each other. The common rooms are equipped with flat screen TVs, comfortable sofas, fireplaces and other amenities. All the bedrooms and common rooms give a warm and welcoming feel to its clients. The center has a gym which clients use during their recreational and exercise time. The center also encourages other indoor and outdoor recreational activities.

The center has an on-site chef who prepares meals three times a day. Meals are served in common dining rooms. Another plus point of this facility is that there is an in-house nutritionist as well. The job of the nutritionist is to help the chef make healthy meals keeping in view different requirements and dietary restrictions that some clients might have.

Dan Dowdle B.A., LADC

Executive Director

Dan Dowdle has over 30 years of management experience in different fields from retail shoe stores to restaurants. After coming out of alcohol addiction, he decided to join the field of behavioral health. He completed a year long training program at the Hazelden Foundation, after which he stayed there as a counselor. Later he moved to Florida and joined the Palm Beach Institute. He has been a supporter of the 12-step program and believes in providing high quality, individualized treatment to patients.

Dr. Timothy Anderson, M.D.

Medical Director

Dr. Timothy Anderson, MD, is a graduate of St. Louis University of Medicine with a Masters in Public Health from Nova Southeastern School of Osteopathic Medicine. He has been providing treatment and care to people suffering from substance abuse for almost 12 years now. He has expertise in addiction medicine, occupational medicine, and general practice

Lisa Sussman

Clinical Director

Lisa Sussman has a Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling from South University. She has over 13 years of experience in the substance abuse field. Her areas of expertise include issues related to sexual abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse and addiction. She also specializes in group therapy and has been helping many families, couples and adolescents recover from their problems.
