Gibson Recovery Center is a non-profit organization that provides treatment services to individuals suffering from the effects of alcohol and drug abuse. It was established in 1979 and since then has been helping thousands of individuals every year. What started as a small halfway house has now expanded to a facility that has a 46-bed capacity in its residential program. The mission at Gibson Recovery Center is to provide comprehensive treatment services to clients to promote new behaviors of a healthy lifestyle. It offers a safe and secure environment where clients participate in rigorous and intensive therapies which help them move towards recovery. The center offers a number of programs including detoxification, residential, outpatient, and offender’s programs. The treatment programs utilize various therapies and therapeutic activities which include individual and group therapy, family groups, educational lectures, and relapse prevention. The center also offers a 12-step support program which provides a holistic approach to treatment that targets the client’s mind, body, and spirit. Through the complete continuum of care and dedicated efforts of the staff, clients are able to embark on the journey to recovery and achieve lasting sobriety. Clients are able to adopt a healthy lifestyle and become productive members of society.

Housing and Food at Gibson Recovery Center

The Gibson Recovery Center is located on a large campus that resembles a farmhouse. It is made up of huge manicured lawns and beautiful landscapes that provide a private and tranquil environment to clients. Separate huts serve as residential units for male and female clients. The campus can accommodate 46 clients in the residential program. Clients share rooms which are furnished with beds and closets for each one. There are common rooms equipped with TVs where clients can spend their free time. There is a large recreation room equipped with some gym equipment for clients. The recreation room also contains a pool table with all accessories. The center offers a number of outdoor activities for clients including sports, walks, and trails. The lush green lawns offer beautiful and gorgeous views which help clients relax and benefit from the healing power of nature. There is a basketball court on the campus as well. The center has an in-house chef and kitchen staff which prepares meals for clients three times a day. Meals are served in the cafeteria. The meals consist of a number of options including fruits, vegetables, poultry, meats, and salads. The kitchen staff also accommodates certain dietary restrictions or specifications of clients.

The Gibson Recovery Center offers individualized treatment services to adults for alcohol and substance abuse. It is a community-based organization that offers sliding scale costs to clients depending on their ability to pay. It is funded by contracts with the Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Department of Mental Health, Mill Tax, United Way in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri Foundation for Health, Department of Corrections, and Office of State Court Administrators. The center also accepts most private insurances. Donations are also collected which are used to pay for treatment costs of individuals who do not have insurance and are unable to pay out of their pockets.

It treats about 1600 individuals from Southeast Missouri every year through the high-quality treatment programs that it offers. The success rate of the center is mostly attributed to the dedicated efforts of its staff members. The staff comprises a licensed psychiatrist, a physician, and licensed addiction counselors (LACs). There are also nurses, registered nurses, and nurse practitioners who provide 24/7 assistance and support to clients. There is an adequate number of staff members at the center with the staff-to-resident ratio being one-to-three.
