Adolescents aged 13 to 17 can participate in a specialized intensive outpatient program specifically made to fit that age group while following a similar structure to the adult program. Sessions and meetings for partial hospitalization patient’s take place from 9 am to 2 pm on weekdays, and clients must have complete attendance for at least two weeks to before being allowed to step down to 3 to 4 hours, three days a week. Intensive outpatient begins after this and meetings take place three times weekly for two weeks. These sessions take place for a three hours and allow for flexibility. After the IOP first phase, clients can transition to having meetings once or twice a week. Individuals can attend work or school while registered into this program.
Although the traditional 12-step program methods are not introduced in individual and group therapy in IOP, a seeking safety model is utilized instead. Group therapy typically involves discussions on spirituality, distorted thinking, distress tolerance, mindfulness, conflict resolution, positive thinking and more. Treatment is aimed at helping clients develop healthy habits to help with dealing with challenges, relapse prevention, building self-esteem, and more. All groups and individual therapy sessions are facilitated by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
